Engineering Geologist
1978 to 2001: Douglas E. Moran, Inc., Senior Associate

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Mr. Masuda has over 23 years of experience in the field
of engineering geology and geotechnical engineering. He has performed and
directed the performance of a number of geologic and geotechnical
investigations of distress to structures and improvements. Among the
investigations he has performed or directed the performance of are
investigations of landslides (in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside
Counties), investigations of retaining structure failures and retaining
structure deformation, investigations of distress due to soil settlement or
subsidence, investigations of distress due to expansion of soil and rock
materials, investigations of distress due to flooding or mudflows and
investigations of distress due to water intrusion. In that capacity, he has
mapped and documented distress and distress related features, observed and
logged excavations, performed geologic and engineering analysis of fills,
cuts, retaining structures and graded and natural slopes and reviewed the
geologic and geotechnical investigations of others. He has also devised and
participated in the preparation of plans for mitigative or corrective
measures, provided inspection services during their implementation and
provided consultation services to a wide array of parties. He has been
qualified as an expert witness and testified in the Los Angeles, Orange and
Riverside County Superior Courts.
Mr. Masuda has also performed and assisted in the performance of
preliminary investigations for construction of single family residences and
residential and commercial developments and provided inspection services
during development. In that capacity, he has investigated and evaluated the
potential effects of landslides, faults, collapsible and expansive soils and
provided recommendations for mitigative measures. He has also reviewed the
geologic and geotechnical investigations of others for a number of
difference parties.
